So let me get this straight...

I just overheard a conversation about how smoking cigarettes is the worst thing you can do for your body. Oh, so crack and heroine is okay then? And what about that fast food stuff everyone eats? And drinking soda? Is none of this considered bad for you?
I'm not one to just stand up for tabacco, but I feel like there is a lot of nasty stuff out there that one can harm their body with, but it is just so taboo to be caught smoking a cigarette. Granted, over a period of time, it can have some bad effects, like cancer, but so can not having a healthy diet or getting enough excercise. Even soda pop is linked to some cancer causing agents. Again, I don't condone smoking, I just hate when people are like, "Oh, I don't smoke cigarettes. That stuff is bad for you. Weed is the only thing I do." A quote only proceeded by taking a bite out of a BigMac. The way people think these days is just... mad.
Any way, Did I let anyone know that I'm considering a career in Chemical Engineering? And going to Wright State University by Dayton? It's a really good college, but it being by Dayton scares me. Dayton traffic is a NIGHT MARE! (I apologize for any grammatical errors, I'm posting this from my Kindle Fire.) I'm really excited to get out of high school and start a life. College, then a real job. It'll be nice not having to work for minimum wage, or worry about people complaining about their bagels not being "bagel-y" enough. Give me a break...

  1. Hey, what’s up! In terms of what you are professing in your blog post, I most definitely agree with you. I am not going to lie, I am a smoker, and, if I had the choice now in hindsight, I wish I never would have started. I wake up every morning with a good ol’ cough that basically sounds like a tyrannosaurus rex screaming violently. Every winter, I get the crappiest colds ever on account of how smoking cigarettes is basically depleting my immune system. And, not to mention the amount of cash I am dishing out on, not only cigarettes, but the amount of cologne bottles to help cloud over the nasty smell that is left from the nasty habit. I will gladly restate what you said, I do not, absolutely not, condone cigarette smoking. That being said, I definitely believe that people absolutely have the right to smoke if needed. Basically, if a person has a necessity to induce in smoking because of stress or other environmental situations, then they have every right to proceed with that. In terms of highly watered down logic, everyone does SOMETHING to relieve stress, right? And, if someone takes that stress reliever away, it is definitely going to cause some nasty situations. Let’s say for example, you have Billy. When Billy is stressed, he really enjoys sitting down and reading a book. So, while reading a book to relieve some stress, some lady pounces up to him and says “Hey, reading is a nasty habit! You can get a paper cut by turning the pages, stupid!” I mean, what the heck, if Billy wants to read, let him read, gosh darn it. I don’t know, I guess my opinion is pretty biased on account of the fact that I indulge on said activity, but still.

  2. I agree with you that there are a lot of bad things that people do to their bodies. I believe smoking is just really looked down upon because rather than just eating a Big Mac that is hurting your own body, smoking has the effect of second hand smoke. So I believe when people are talking against smoking they are looking out for the better health of nonsmokers. I am not just writing this because I don’t smoke; it’s just how I feel on the subject. So if you want to smoke that is fine with me, but make sure it’s in a respectable place. Last year when I played softball we always had one parent who would smoke while we were playing. Like I said I had no problem with it, until I could smell the smoke on the field. I come from a family where smoking is not allowed, so never less to say it would give me headaches and make me feel nauseous. The worst was after having to run and needing a breath, all I felt like all I inhaled was smoke. I really liked the parent he was a really nice guy, but I would have liked him better if he would have moved to a different place to smoke. I guess what I am trying to say there are a lot of bad things for our bodies, but when you are doing something to your body that hurts others that’s when I will complain. I am not the one choosing to smoke, so be respectful when you choose to smoke around me. The same goes for me when people are smoking and I go around them I will not complain, because it was my choice. So I guess we just have to be respectful of one another!

  3. I agree with your idea on the whole smoking issue. I have a lot of friends that smoke, and while I would rather than not smoke I like the fact that they do that instead of illegal things. My town has a lot of people who do things that harm their bodies, and I do have to say some sit and judges others for that. Which is not right you should never judge someone and then do the exact samething. I get sick being around smoke for so long, and the only thing I have a problem with is doing it in public places, that goes for anything. I do not want to also intake what that other person is doing to their body. They may not mind hurting themselves but I mind it for the others that do not want to. That is why I like how you can not smoke in public places anymore. I know what you nean about the whole BigMac thing, I am writing my paper on childhood obesity. With that they give examples of what eating like that doe to you. It gives you a higher chance of heart problems and diabetes in your adult years. I had no idea that they found cnacer in pop, but I am not a big pop drinker so I never really paid attention to that. Also it is good that you have a plan for your future. Engineering is a great program to get into. I know what you mean when you say you when you are excited to get out of high school and get into the real world because I am a high school student too. Good luck in the future!
