Happy Thanksgiving!

You know what.

I got on facebook Saturday morning, and I saw all the black friday posts. Oh, I had to walk ten miles and wait in line for two hours and fight for a pair if boots and a complementary tote bag!

Oh. That sounds tragic. . .

Look here shoppers, I don't feel bad for you. Half the time, the deals go on days after black friday and you don't even have to wait in a line that wraps around the entire store. In fact, YOU, dear shopper, need to think of someone else to feel bad for. THE POOR MALL WORKERS.

Whether you work in the mall or the restaurants next to the mall, I'm feeling for you because I am one of those people. I had to work black friday and it was honestly crazy. Normally at Panera, breakfast rush, lunch rush, and dinner rush are all crazy and entail a line to the door. More so on weekends. But even with all five registers open, three backers, and a barista, we still had a line all morning AND all afternoon AND all night until we were closed. And because the bakers baked double to triple the normal quota, we had a TON of stuff left over, including ten pastry rings! That is not normal!

  1. Hey there! First off, how was your break? Mine was pretty swell! In terms of Black Friday being, well, basically horrendous, I can definitely agree with that one. I had the oh so great opportunity to experience my very first Black Friday shopping extravaganza. So, I gathered my friends at 10:30 p.m., and we all drive to the Lima mall. The first thing that I noticed was that the line to one of the department stores was probably extremely close to a freaking mile long! I’m not positive, but I am pretty sure a lot of people skipped their family thanksgiving celebrations to go and shop. That initially made me slightly mad. I mean, we are supposed to reflect with our friends and family on how thankful we are for our prosperity, yet there’s people that only care about “how sexy they are going to look in those Gucci slippers!” That’s sad. Also, I watched a middle aged woman push an assuming 5 year old to get so she could get her shoes. I shouldn’t even have to explain how that is saddening. Sorry, I just had to vent there, ha-ha. But, in terms of having a job on busy days, I can really relate with ya. See, my hometown we have something called Pioneer Days; a town festival where basically everyone gets drunk. Yay (sarcasm). So, since everyone is drunk, they all order pizza at my job, because for some reason inebriated people really love pizza. This annoys the crap out of me because I have to spend my week catering to really rude trashed people. I don’t know what it is about alcohol, but dang, I’ve gotten some incompetent remarks while working on Pioneer Days. Honestly, people need to know that you do not, I repeat, DO NOT, mess with the people that handle your food. I’m not going to spit in a person’s order or anything, but I’m definitely going to put a lot less effort into making your food if you’re over the counter slurring drunken thoughts. Respect people, respect.

  2. I know right! I had this one lady come in who barely spoke English. Right? Like I can't understand you. Any way, she started going off on me when I handed her her to go coffee mug because, apparently, I stuck my finger in it. No I didn't? She wanted a new cup so I ducked behind the counter and swirled my finger around in a new cup and handed it to her with a big smile on my face. Would it matter any way? I wash my hands religiously at work. You can only work in a bakery so long before your hands get glued together from all the stickiness.
It's also annoying when people walk into the store at 8 o'clock at night after a busy day and go, "No cinnamon crunch bagels? That's poor planning on your behalf." And walk out of the store. True. Story. First of all, HELLO?! This isn't like other places where I can just walk to the back to get more, all of our baked goods are baked by bakers. I feel like I just overused the word "bake" but I mean I work at the Bakery... Second of all, ON MY BEHALF? It wasn't like I purposefully ran out of a popular bagel and schemed to piss off some angry customers. I'm not going to make more bagels at 8 at night? We close at nine and they take forever to make? Ugh, people have no respect anymore!

  3. I have never been Black Friday shopping, and I do not plan on it ha. I think it is so crazy for someone to do that! I mean fight over items, and when you think about are some of the stuff that needed. I hear so many crazy stories, and the whole time I think why would you put yourself through that? I feel so bbad for all the workers though! I mean image being a cashier at Wal-mart?! I bet that person I cannot wait for it to be over! I mean even on a regualr day they are busy.
I also think this "holiday" is dangerous. I look back and think when have I not heard a story where someone says they got hurt, or say someone get hurt. I do not know how people could have the patience to stand in line wait then they might not even get what they spent their time waiting for! I did hear a horrible story about how some teen tricked a couple to stay in a longer line to get his product, and he would stand to get theirs. He got theirs in 10 mintues, and got to relax; while they stood for 2 hours just for his! He was so mean he acted like he waited that long. I felt SO bad for those people. I would hate to be tricked like that! Cannot believe there was stuff leftover at Panera! I personally love that place so it is hard to image that would even happen!
